Workshop Days

At our Biggleswade base, we offer full-day and half-day workshops designed for anyone looking to gain a better understanding of sound, lighting, and effects for theatre, live music, and general production. These hands-on sessions allow participants to explore the technical side of productions, learning how to plan, set up, and operate equipment safely and effectively.

Our workshops are suitable for a wide range of learners, from those with no prior experience to those looking to enhance their existing skills. Participants gain practical knowledge of stage lighting, sound systems, and special effects, experiencing firsthand how these elements come together to create a professional-quality production.

In addition, we offer workshops specifically for bands looking to improve their live sound. These sessions cover the fundamentals of system setup, microphone placement, amplifier control, and overall volume management, giving musicians the confidence and skills to achieve a clean, balanced, and professional sound for their performances.

All workshops at our Biggleswade base are interactive, practical, and tailored to meet the needs of each group, providing valuable hands-on experience in a supportive learning environment.

Our training isn’t just for students — we also support teachers and school staff at every level, from primary through to sixth form and college. We understand that many venues already have sound and lighting equipment, but staff may not feel confident using it to its full potential. That’s why we offer flexible training options, from covering the very basics of operating equipment safely, to providing more in-depth knowledge that enables teachers to guide and support their students’ technical learning. Our goal is to ensure that every school production runs smoothly while giving staff the confidence to integrate technical theatre skills into the wider learning experience.

In primary schools, our training focuses on the fundamentals needed to support simpler productions, such as school nativity plays or class performances. Staff gain practical skills in operating basic lighting, sound, and simple stage equipment, as well as understanding how to manage cues and coordinate performers. This helps teachers and support staff feel confident in bringing small-scale productions to life, creating engaging and memorable experiences for young learners.

For secondary schools, where venues may have more advanced equipment and larger productions, we provide training tailored to staff who have little or no technical experience. Our sessions cover how to operate more complex sound and lighting systems, stage management basics, and how to supervise students working on technical roles. This ensures that even with limited in-house expertise, teachers can confidently guide and support students as they learn technical theatre skills, helping them contribute effectively to larger, high-quality performances such as end-of-year shows or school musicals.

We offer courses for GCSE and A-Level students that are designed specifically for those taking the technical side of drama, providing a hands-on introduction to the world behind the scenes. Students gain practical experience with sound, lighting, and stage management, learning how these elements come together to support a live performance. By exploring the different technical roles, they develop a solid foundation in the skills and knowledge required for further study or a future career in theatre and live events.

Students get hands-on experience with the technical side of productions, focusing on sound, lighting, and visual effects. They learn how to mix and balance audio, design lighting states to set mood and atmosphere, and use visual or atmospheric effects to enhance the storytelling. These practical sessions allow students to experiment with real equipment and see how each element contributes to the overall impact of a performance, while also building confidence, problem-solving skills, and an understanding of the teamwork required behind the scenes.

For those looking to progress further, our courses provide insight into more advanced technical techniques and best practices. This includes learning to work with complex lighting rigs, sound systems, and special effects, as well as understanding professional standards in stage management. By supporting students as they develop these skills, we help them take ownership of their learning and prepare them to contribute effectively to school productions or pursue opportunities beyond the classroom.

We offer flexible course formats to suit different schedules and needs. Short courses are designed to fit neatly into normal lesson times, giving students a practical introduction without disrupting the timetable, while after-school and weekend workshops provide extended, immersive sessions for those who want to explore technical theatre in greater depth. This ensures that every student can access hands-on learning opportunities that fit their school and lifestyle.

We offer full-day and half-day technical training workshops designed specifically for schools and colleges. These extended sessions provide more time than standard in-school courses, giving students a hands-on introduction to the technical side of theatrical production. Pupils gain practical experience in sound, lighting, and effects, learning how theatre productions are brought to life behind the scenes, and developing an understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and skills required to operate technical equipment safely and effectively.

For those interested in audio, our workshops on sound systems and production explore the fundamentals of live sound, including microphone techniques, mixing, amplification, and sound effects management. Pupils have the opportunity to work directly with equipment, learning how to set up, operate, and troubleshoot a variety of sound systems in a realistic theatre or event environment.

Our workshops on lighting design and systems focus on the creative and technical aspects of stage lighting. Students learn how to plan, program, and operate lighting rigs, explore color, intensity, and cueing, and understand how lighting contributes to the overall mood and storytelling of a production. Both full-day and half-day sessions are tailored to be engaging, interactive, and suitable for students at all levels of experience.
